I met Mrs Indira Gandhi twice when she visited Kargil, where I was commanding the Brigade. Learning that I was a Kodava, she spoke highly and fondly of Rohini, one of the Pooviah sisters. I felt very proud as her father and my father were first cousins.

Thanks for this lovely account of the history of the great Poovaiah family. I am honoured to be married into this family (my husband is The Poovaiah sisters’ niece’s son) and we are all very proud of the heritage this classic family has held over the years. The palatial Poovaiah villa still stands beautiful and warm, with Kingu uncle welcoming all. It has become out favorite holiday home where our generations now make new memories every year while we relive the old times. Well written and researched article. Thanks again.
