Governor to take action on repair of Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road
Karnataka Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj (in picture above) has assured that he would direct the Karnataka government to immediately take up the repair of the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road.
Responding to a question from this reporter on the pathetic condition of the road at a news conference in Madikeri on November 12, the Governor said the matter had not come to his notice. He added that he would take up the matter with the government if a memorandum on the issue was submitted to him.
This news portal which has been in the forefront in campaigning for the repair of the road, has submitted the following memorandum to the Governor:
November 13, 2012
To: Shri Hans Raj Bhardwaj
Governor of Karnataka
Raj Bhavan
Bangalore
Dear Sir,
We, the people of Kodagu, appeal to your Excellency to prevail upon the Karnataka government to improve the condition of the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road which is now in a pathetic condition.
A memorandum on the condition of the road was sent in August, 2012, to the Speaker of the Assembly, K.G. Bopaiah, who represents the Virajpet constituency in the Assembly, and to Shri Appachu Ranjan, district-in-charge minister for Kodagu and also the Madikeri MLA.
Responding to the issue in the media, Shri Bopaiah and Shri Appachu had assured that work on the repair of the road will commence in November, 2012. However, there is no sign of any work being taken up on the road.
The Hunsur-Gonikoppal road is dotted with craters and several stretches of the highway are not in a motorable condition.
On behalf of the people of Kodagu, through my website www.coorgtourisminfo.com, Kodagu’s first news portal, I started an online campaign in August, 2012, on the issue of the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road. The campaign was registered with Petitions India, an online portal, where members of the public could register their online support.
The petition was signed by 132 members. The campaign generated 164 ‘likes’ on Facebook. The petition was sent to the Speaker and Shri Appachu Ranjan.
Since no action has been taken so far to repair the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road as assured by Shri Bopaiah and Shri Appachu, kindly direct the Karnataka government to start the work on the road on a war-footing.
Yours Sincerely,
P.T. Bopanna
