Online petition to repair Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road
OPEN LETTER TO KODAGU MLAs TO IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF HUNSUR-GONIKOPPAL ROAD LEADING TO KODAGU
To:
1. Mr K.G. Bopaiah
Virajpet MLA and Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly
2. Mr Appachu Ranjan
Madikeri MLA
We the people of Kodagu appeal to our elected representatives in the Karnataka Assembly to prevail upon the Karnataka government to improve the condition of the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road which is now in a pathetic condition.
Mr Bopaiah being the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly is in a better position to use his good offices to persuade the government to repair and upgrade the road.
Moreover, Mr Bopaiah represents the Virajpet constituency and is responsible to his constituents to ensure proper condition of the road leading to his constituency.
The Hunsur-Gonikoppal road is dotted with craters and several stretches of the highway are not in a motorable condition.
The condition of the Anechaukur-Piriyapatna Road is no better. For the time-being, this stretch can be improved as motorists from Gonikoppal could take this road to Piriyapatna from where the road to Hunsur is in a better condition.
Since the road from Hunsur to Kodagu comes in the jurisdiction of the Hunsur and Piriyapatna MLAs, they do not seem to be bothered about the road which they seem to assume is being used by people going to Kodagu and Kerala.
Though on paper, the government has sanctioned funds for improving the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road, no visible sign of any work being taken up on this road.
The government always takes the excuse that they cannot undertake any road work during the monsoon. This kind of excuse cannot fool the people all the time.
If you both (MLAs) succeed in improving the condition of the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road, you can be assured of one more term in the Assembly. Hope you will not betray the people of Kodagu at least this time!
Meanwhile, the Mysore (Kodagu) Lok Sabha member A.H. Vishwanath could take up with the Union Government to declare the roads from Mysore to Kodagu as National Highway and commence work immediately on their up-gradation.
FROM KODAGU WELL-WISHERS
EDITOR’S VIEW: www.coorgtourisminfo.com, the first news portal of Kodagu, has throughout championed the cause of Kodagu by highlighting the major issues involving the district.
The Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road has been in a bad condition for several years now. Motorists are facing serious problem in negotiating the roads. The elected representatives of Kodagu have failed to address the problem. They seem to be concentrating on rural roads with a view to woo the local voters.
This portal decided to take up a novel method involving an online petition to urge the Kodagu MLAs to take up the repair of the Hunsur-Gonikoppal Road.
