Tennis star Rohan Bopanna weds Supriya at Madikeri
India’s tennis star Machanda Rohan Bopanna tied the nuptial knot with Chodumada Supriya at a well-attended wedding on Sunday at Madikeri in Kodagu district of Karnataka.
Besides his tennis partner Mahesh Bhupathi and wife Lara Dutta, Bopanna’s close friend and partner from Pakistan Aisam Ul-Haq Quershi also attended the glittering wedding held at Capitol Village on the outskirts of Madikeri town.
Bopanna, 32, nicknamed ‘Bofors Bopanna’ for his big serves on the court, married Supriya, an MA psychology student. The parents of Bopanna – Machanda Prabha Bopanna and Mallika, of Madapur, and the bride’s parents Chodumada Col. Annaiah and Saroo, blessed the couple.
The Oorukuduva (wedding eve) function for close family and friends was a grand affair with Lara and Mahesh Bhupathi arriving in a helicopter. Kodava traditional food was served for the over 1,000 guests.
The Kodava style wedding was attended by a galaxy of celebrities, including Karti Chidambaram, vice-president of All India Tennis Association and son of Union Minister P.Chidambaram. Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman was dressed in the traditional Kodava attire of kupya, chele and peeche kathi.
