DR UTHAPPA FROM KODAGU (COORG) RECOGNISED AS ‘TOP SCIENTIST’ IN THE WORLD

Dr U.T. Uthappa (in picture), hailing from Kodagu (Coorg) in Karnataka has been recognised as the “World’s Top 2 per cent Scientist.”  What is of interest is the fact that he did his schooling in Kodagu and completed his PUC from Srimangala, south Kodagu.

He is the son of Uluvangada B. Sabu Thammaiah, and Meena Hemavathy, of T. Shettigeri, in Kodagu district. He is married to Haanya (Disha) from Nellamakkada family.

Each year, Prof. John P. A. Ioannidis from Stanford University in the United States, in collaboration with Elsevier & Scopus publishes “World’s Top 2 % Scientists”, recognizing the world’s most influential scientific researchers representing approximately 2% of all scientists globally.

Dr. Uthappa is currently working as Post-Doctoral Scientist at College of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China.

Previously, he worked as Post-Doctoral Fellow (2021-2022) at Chonnam National University & Research Professor (2022-2023) at Yeungnam University, South Korea.

He obtained his PhD degree in chemistry from Jain University, Bengaluru, India, in 2021. His core research interest is focused on addressing global challenges in environment, health, food and agricultural sectors for sustainability.

Dr Uthappa has published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed internationally recognized journals.

He began his schooling at Patticad English Primary School at T. Shettigeri. Then he went to Appacha Kavi Vidyalaya, Ponnampet. P.U.C at Srimangala Pre-University College. BSc. Degree: JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science at Mysore. MSc from Mysore University.

Asked about his future plans, Dr Uthappa stated: “My future plan is may be another 3-4 years, I will stay abroad to continue my research, then I will return to India to become a professor (preferably Karnataka). If given the opportunity, with the support of Codava Educational Society, I have the plan to propose and establish new Research Center in Kodagu to motivate, train young talents into research.”
