ARTIST YAMINI PONNAPPA IS INSPIRED BY HER KODAVA (COORG) HERITAGE

Yamini Ponnappa’s (in picture) heart beats for Kodagu. She has nurtured a diverse range of creative skills, including logo design, brochure design, glass painting, hand embroidery, baking, mandala art, and customised bangle making.

Yamini says: “From the day I began sketching, I have signed my work with “Gurukar”, in gratitude to Guru Karna for guiding my creative path.

Daughter of Puliyanda Pratap Ponnappa and Kusum (Cheppudira), Yamini is married to Maaramada Abhishek Appanna of Athur in Kodagu district.  Presently, she is working for Excel Public School, Mysore, in the design and arts section.

For the past four years, she has dedicated her time to the Kodava community, designing cultural brochures, caricatures, and other creative works. 

She completed her schooling at St. Anne’s, Virajpet, and pursued PCMB at Lions PU College, Gonikoppal. She then studied Diploma in Animation and Film Making followed by a B.Sc. in Animation and Film Making. Additionally, she earned a Central Government-certified Skill Development qualification in nursery making and plant growth.
