COORG-BORN CHENNAI-BASED ANJAN CARIAPPA IS A TRAILBLAZER IN INDIAN ANIMATION

By P.T. Bopanna
I recently featured a cartoon by Chennai-based artist on Facebook which was well appreciated by the Kodava (Coorg) community. Many are not familiar with the work of Anjan Cariappa, one of India’s trailblazing animation artists.
Muckkattira Anjan Cariappa, a pioneering artist, cartoonist and animator, was associated with India’s first 3D animated feature film Alibaba in 2000. He has also contributed for films like The Legend of Buddha.
Creativity runs in his genes — his father Muckkattira Mandanna designed the iconic Kodava logo of peeche kathi, odi kathi and gun. Anjan’s sister Chitra, is a well-known quilting artist.
Anjan is one of the pioneers in off-roading in India and started an off road club “Jeep Thrills”.
The Coorg Cultural Association, Chennai, is going to felicitate Anjan this weekend during the annual Kailpod festival celebrations, for his contribution to art, animation and innovation.
