KODAGU HANDBOOK: DISCOVER COORG BOOK IN KANNADA

Following the phenomenal success of the English version of his book ‘Discover Coorg’, a tourist handbook on Kodagu district published first in 2006, author P.T. Bopanna decided to bring out the Kannada version.

The Kannada version of the book was first published in 2009 by Prism Books, Bengaluru. Since the copies of the book have almost run out of print, Bopanna decided to bring out the book in print-on demand format.

While the English version was basically targeted at the tourists from outside the state, the Kannda edition is meant for people from within Karnataka.

The book is translated into Kannada by T.S. Gopal, former principal of Srimangala Junior College in Kodagu district. Bopanna was very particular that the book should be translated by someone who understood the ethos of Kodagu. Gopal is well qualified for the job as he had earlier undertaken the work of bringing out a Kodava-Kannada dictionary.

Bollera Jajie Mandanna, well-known consumer activist and former president of the Bangalore Kodava Samaja, has contributed article on Kodava wedding. The other articles, include Dr S.V. Narasimhan’s article on birds of Kodagu, Dr Boverianda Nanjamma Chinnappa’s article on Kodava cuisine and Chindamada Arati Monappa’s articles on Kodagu jewellery and on the Huthri harvest festival.

The book contains more than 40 photographs, including photographs from internationally renowned wildlife photographers – Krupakar and Senani.

Paperback copy of the book is available on Flipkart:
